MAHOPAC, N.Y. - Epic Dance Center welcomed four new members into its chapter of the National Honor Society for Dance Arts (NHSDA) on Sunday, April 2.

The NHSDA is a program of the National Dance Education Organization, created to recognize outstanding artistic merit, leadership and academic achievement in dance students. Epic Dance Center has a chapter for high school dancers, grades nine to 12, which promotes a love of dance and encourages an appreciation of dance as an art form.

The four girls inducted are: Eleanna Bowen, 16, of Yorktown, Samantha Dos Santos, 17, of Mahopac, Caitlyn McKearney, 16, of Somers, and Sarah Solazzo, 16, of Yorktown.

Induction requires a minimum GPA of 3.0; accumulating a minimum of 30 points awarded for dance activities (classes, recitals, competitions, workshops, community service projects); and demonstrating teamwork, leadership and strong character in the many aspects of dance (choreography, mentoring, etc).

Epic’s owner, Sue Solazzo, is not only a proud studio owner, but a proud mom, too.

“These young ladies are the epitome of positive leaders within our studio,” Solazzo said. “They are always there to lend a helping hand and their work ethic is outstanding. There are a lot of younger dancers who truly look up to our teens and the impact of such positive role models will have a lasting impression on them.”

Jamie Signorile, dance instructor and Epic’s artistic director, agrees.

“Epic Dance Center is like a second family and we encourage the dancers to cheer each other on and treat everyone with respect,” Signorile said. “We are so proud of all our dancers at Epic Dance Center and look forward to many more teens following in the footsteps of these NHSDA inductees.”

Epic Dance Center is an affiliate of the dance studio program, More Than Just Great Dancing, where the motto of its founder Misty Lown is: “We don’t teach kids to make great dancers, we teach dance to make great kids!”
