YORKTOWN, N.Y. - On Saturday, June 11, the Alliance for Safe Kids (ASK) hosted a DARE Celebration Party for DARE graduates in Yorktown and Lakeland school districts.

One hundred and eleven fifth-grade students came together to celebrate and put their DARE skills to work in a fun, safe and substance-free environment at Solaris Sports Club. Activities included sports contests, dancing and games.

The event was chaperoned by 13 high school volunteers, 11 adult volunteers, ASK staff and monitored by the Yorktown police department as part of their patrol route.

“The DARE program envisions a world in which students everywhere are empowered to respect others and choose to lead lives free from violence, substance abuse and other dangerous behaviors,” said Liz Talbert, coalition coordinator at ASK. “Yorktown Police Det. Richie Finn really connects with the students in this program and promotes positive messaging with hopes to positively influence their decision making skills when encountering dangerous situations. We are very lucky to have this program available in our community.”

ASK especially thanks TD Bank for sponsoring the 2016 Teen Night Program as well as Schechtman Orthodontics for sponsoring the DJ.
