YORKTOWN, N.Y.-A $200,000 increase in the Yorktown School District’s bus contract for the 2018-19 school year sparked a discussion last month about the feasibility of switching vendors or bringing the services in-house.

At the Feb. 12 school board meeting, Tom Cole, assistant superintendent for business, said Bauman & Sons, the district’s vendor for nearly two decades, has somewhat of a monopoly on school transportation services in Yorktown.

Bringing the services in-house would require the school district to hire drivers and purchase a fleet of buses and property to store and maintain the buses.
