As you drive through Yorktown, you’ll see acres of trees draped in killer vines. The vines kill by smothering the trees and crowding out the light, and they kill smaller trees by wrapping round their trunks and binding the tree’s trunk so tightly that it is strangled.
We should encourage every homeowner and business (especially utility companies) to weed out or at least cut back their vines. And perhaps groups like the Boy Scouts or the Huntersville Association could take to the woods with pruning shears and loppers to save our forested areas.
It won’t be easy, but the longer we wait to act, the worse the damage will be.
