SHRUB OAK, N.Y.-Lakeland/Panas’ ice hockey squad got its League D campaign off to a great start when it went on the road in the opener Nov. 28 and defeated Nyack/Tappan Zee 4-3 at the Palisades Ice Arena.

“Winning our league opener means a lot to this team because we are a still a new team, still coming together,” Lakeland/Panas senior forward Paige Sullivan said. “It is a real confidence booster for us because it not only shows everyone what we are capable of but it shows ourselves what we are capable of.”

The Rebels tied the game at 1-1 on a goal by Brett Hanson, assisted by Quinten Evangelou, in the opening period.

Hanson, courtesy of an assist from Joseph Jimenez, put the Rebels in front 2-1 in the second stanza.

Lakeland/Panas added to its lead in the third period when Evangelou put it by the goalie, off assists from Hanson and Nick Perez.

Dom Catalfamo extended the Rebels’ lead to 4-1, with Paige Sullivan and Jimenez recording assists on the play.
