SHRUB OAK-Lakeland/Panas’ wrestling squad opened its season in the 2017 Bernie Miller Dual Meet Tournament at Rye High School on Dec. 2.

Opening day is always exciting for every team but it was especially important for a young Rebel squad, which got some very much needed experience wrestling against some of the best grapplers in the area.

Lakeland/Panas was a very competitive 2-3 on the day.

“As a team, I think we performed well,” Lakeland/Panas junior captain Justin Rosario said. “There were things that I think we all could’ve been stronger at but everyone fought hard. I am confident we will all develop as the season progresses.”

The Rebels’ two victories came against Westlake, 72-12, and St. Joseph’s By the Sea, 45-33, with their losses coming against Fordham Prep (12-60), Beacon (27-41) and Harrison (15-69).
