YORKTOWN, N.Y.-Tempers flared last week as Democrats on the Town Board made two personnel changes that were unpopular with their Republican colleagues.
Moments after accepting the resignation of Town Attorney Michael J. McDermott, who was brought on two years ago by a Republican-controlled board, Supervisor Ilan Gilbert asked the board to award a contract to the Marc Oxman Law Group to provide the town with legal counsel on an interim basis.
The item was not listed on the agenda, which irked Councilman Ed Lachterman, who said the Democrats were being hypocritical when they criticized the previous administration for doing the same thing. He and Councilman Tom Diana voted against awarding the contract.
