LINCOLNDALE, N.Y. — Somers' baseball team was in desperate need of a win and it picked up a big 7-1 league victory over visiting Lakeland on Tuesday.

Michael Hirsch earned the win, going six innings while striking out five, scattering eight hits and walking one batter for Somers (4-8).

Tusker Matt Mariani went 3 for 4 with three RBI and three runs scored. Garrett Wilson clocked two doubles and had two RBI. Matt Pires was 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.

James Houlahan was 2 for 4 for the Hornets (9-4), while Freddy Reichelt was 1 for 3 with an RBI.

Somers and Lakeland meet again on Thursday in the second game of a home-and-home series at Lakeland High School at 4:15 p.m.
