To the editor,
Thank you to all the voters and residents of Yorktown. Whoever you supported, whoever you voted for, congratulations on your participation. Participatory democracy requires participation and you made it work.
More than 12,000 voters cast their ballots in Yorktown this year. For an off-year, odd-year election, that appears to be a record number. Thank you and congratulations.
We, the new incoming Democratic majority, Supervisor-elect Ilan Gilbert, Councilwoman-elect Alice Roker and Councilman Vishnu Patel, will redeem our campaign promises.
Meetings of the Yorktown Town Board will be conducted in an orderly and sober manner, with dignity and courtesy extended to all. The new majority will listen to the community without interruption or debate, conduct the business of the town in an open and transparent manner and pledges to serve the interests of all Yorktown residents, not merely the partisans of one side or the other.
And NO, “sanctuary” status for Yorktown is not and never was part of the agenda of any of the Democratic candidates or the Democratic Committee, notwithstanding hysterical and disingenuous statements to the contrary by the opposition during the campaign. We invite the public to come and see for themselves. Please come to Town Board meetings. We welcome your input and participation.
Come see a government you can trust. We promise to justify the confidence you have placed in us. We thank you for your support, and we ask for your partnership in preserving, protecting and enhancing the quality of life in our beautiful town going forward.
