Nicholas John DeMarsh and Arjay Rajesh Mirchandani

Nicholas John DeMarsh and Arjay Rajesh Mirchandani are the newest Eagle Scouts from Boy Scouts of America Troop 165 in Yorktown.

For his Eagle Scout Service Project, DeMarsh built new and reinforced existing fencing around Wildflower Island at Teatown Lake Reservation. The fence serves as a protective barrier to keep beaver from accessing the island, which is home to native endangered species of wildflower. He also led tours around the island to raise public awareness of the island’s plight and the importance of environmental stewardship.

Mirchandani created a platform within FDR Park and removed excess trash in the surrounding area. The creation of the platform, colloquially known as “Grady’s Bridge,” named after DeMarsh’s dog, expanded a trail within the reserve, allowing new areas to be accessible by the public.

County Legislator Michael Kaplowitz, Town Supervisor Ilan Gilbert Yorktown Supervisor and Town Councilman Vishnu Patel presented certificates of achievements at the Eagle Scout promotion ceremony.
