I’m curious about recent comments from Yorktown’s current leaders that praise new development in our town. I see only more and more empty storefronts, plus inexplicable new construction for yet another bank. No new locally owned stores, restaurants, movie theaters, or kid-friendly businesses in sight.

A new giant big-box store right off the Taconic—particularly a store that won’t even be paying its full share of taxes for years, thanks to the abatement, which does not extend to struggling smaller businesses in Yorktown—doesn’t pass for real redevelopment.

Supervisor Grace is not acting on behalf of the taxpayers he’s supposed to serve. And anyone who’s seen his rude, unprofessional conduct at the town hall meetings already knows that he doesn’t have our best interests at heart.

We’ll remember in November.
