YORKTOWN, N.Y.-Staging a furious comeback, Yorktown’s boys basketball squad overcame a 25-9 halftime deficit and trailed by 17 in the fourth quarter before rallying to defeat host Ossining 56-52 in overtime on Jan. 9.
The Huskers credited their coach, Kevin Downes, with helping them make their comeback. “The 17-point deficit was a hole we dug ourselves into and coach told us exactly what we needed at halftime,” Yorktown senior captain Marc Spinelli said. “Then the momentum shifted in our favor and people like Tommy Weaver and Ben Schumer stepped up huge in the second half and we all started making shots and catching some breaks.”
