ALBANY, N.Y. - Yorktown Eagle Scout Brian Fitzgerald was sworn in to the U.S. Army on Wednesday morning and has shipped off to begin his training, his parents said.

Fitzgerald of Boy Scout Troop 165 became an Eagle Scout in May 2014. The 2014 Lakeland High School graduate is heading to Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri for basic training as well as his advanced individual training.

“We are confident that Brian is heading off to be all that he can be, and that he's going to be successful,” said Tim and Lisa Fitzgerald, his parents.

Tim Fitzgerald said his son has chosen motor transport operator for his military occupation specialty. His advanced individual training is expected to end in May, his father said.

“At which point, he will be deployed somewhere in the world to serve his country,” Tim Fitzgerald said.
