MAHOPAC, N.Y. – It was an emotional evening for departing Yorktown Schools Superintendent Dr. Ralph Napolitano, as friends, family and staff celebrated his retirement at Villa Barone in Mahopac, Thursday, May 25.

At the party, which drew about 325 people, Napolitano was surprised with a banner, revealing that the auditorium at Yorktown High School had been renamed for the longtime school administrator, whose 11-year tenure with the district will end in July.

The school board had met in a special session earlier that day to pass the resolution.

“Athletic Director Fio Nardone and High School Principal Joseph DeGennaro unrolled a banner with the new name and, for a moment, Dr. Napolitano was speechless,” said Barbara Nackman, media manager for Yorktown Central School District.

Napolitano said it was an evening he will always remember.

“I had a sensational evening with every school doing a personalized and stunning recognition,” he said. “I always knew that I was blessed with a very talented faculty and staff. However, last night sealed it for me. I have the most talented faculty and staff anyone could ever wish for.”
