YORKTOWN – Yorktown’s week was highlighted by an 8-2 senior-night win against Lakeland/Panas on Jan. 29 at the Brewster Ice Arena.

“We played a good team game tonight,” Yorktown’s Liam Donnelly said. “The puck was moving all night and we played a fundamentally sound game.”

The Huskers were led by a hat trick from Donnelly, who also added two assists.

“My teammates gave me great opportunities and I finished,” Donnelly said. “I’m very thankful to be playing with this group.”

The night was a milestone one for the senior as Donnelly recorded his 100th career assist.

“I didn’t know until after the game I had 100 assists so that was a nice surprise,” Donnelly said. “Being that it’s on senior night makes it special to me because I know I don’t have a lot of time left on the ice.”

Shaun Benson (1G, 3A), Christopher Zumpano (1G), Jean-Marc Groux (1G), Justin Groux (1G), Christian Grossi (1G), Jason Meyerski (1A), Connor Sullivan (1A) and Madison Drezek (15 saves) all contributed to the victory for Yorktown.

Anthony Cappello (1G), Tim Rucci (1G), Dylan Palazzetti (1A), Kyle Carroll (1A) and Matt Piciocchi (26 saves) led the way for the Rebels (0-16) against the Huskers.

Yorktown lost to John Jay-Cross River 5-1 on Jan. 27 at the BIA.

The Huskers got on the board with a goal by Anuj Gupta with assists from Cian Keohane and Meyerski that put the Huskers up 1-0 in the first period.

“We transitioned out of the defensive zone very quickly catching their defender off guard, which gave me and Cian Keohane a 2-on-1 in which he sent a perfect pass that I just tapped in,” Gupta said. “This goal felt very big to us, because we knew that we had to come out flying and score quickly to set the tempo of the game.”

John Jay answered with five unanswered goals to win the game.

“We had eight skaters tonight due to injuries, so that played a big role in us becoming tired and giving up goals,” Gupta said.

Dylan Tolbert made 22 saves for the Huskers against the Indians.

Yorktown (9-9-1) finished the week with a 3-0 victory against Fox Lane at the BIA on Jan. 30.

Donnelly (1G, 1A), Benson (1G), Gupta (1G), Jean-Marc Groux (1A) and Grossi (20 saves) help the Huskers derail the Foxes.

What Is Cambridge Analytica?

Cambridge Analytica is a research organization. Apparently, it is funded by the Mercer family, second only to the Koch brothers on the liberal hit list. Both, through their philanthropy, spend millions on various needy organizations like hospitals. What makes them liberal targets is their funding of various conservative think tanks and candidates. I digress.

The Best of the Best: Albert Capellini

In the spring of 1991, after answering an ad for a judicial race placed in the local Yorktown paper, I was talked into the unenviable position of running for Yorktown councilman as a Democrat in our then solidly Republican town.

Having been a practicing lawyer since 1974, I felt confident about my qualifications for the position of town judge, but being elected to the Town Board was quite ...

‘Sister Act’: A Musical Like Nun Other

Of all the Broadway musicals I’ve seen over the years at Westchester Broadway Theatre, only a handful have elicited the noisily enthusiastic audience response I observed at the recent opening night of “Sister Act.”

There were outbursts of applause in the middle of some numbers, and several clever turns of phrase sprinkled in the dialogue landed squarely, to the delight of big ...

Cleaning the Empty Nest

Part of the shock of being a part-time empty nester is when the kids come back to visit and I have to watch my house transform overnight from a pristine haven of OCD goodness to a place that looks like an explosion happened at Forever 21.

After my kids moved mostly out, I put away whatever tchotchkes they chose to leave behind and then I put on a hazmat suit and cleaned their rooms until they ...

Why Do Kids Hate Math?

Dear Dr. Linda,

I am in second grade and have a problem about math. My teacher just keeps giving me homework and it’s driving me crazy. Because she keeps giving it to me on weekends and spring and summer breaks. And it’s only one level and it’s too hard. But the other people who have special needs get to be moved into a higher or lower group and they learn even more because ...
