YORKTOWN, N.Y. – Last week, the John C. Hart Memorial Library unveiled its new front garden, replacing the overgrown junipers that were in front of the porch.
The project began last November, when an employee from the town water department removed the junipers with a backhoe. Library staff then shared ideas for creating an attractive, low-maintenance garden. Library caretaker, Thomas Gallello, began weeding and levelling the area in May to build a retaining wall using interlocking stone pavers.
The Friends of the Library provided $750 for plants and mulch. Blossom Knolls Nurseries in Yorktown discounted the plants and provided free delivery. Yorktown Garden Supply discounted the mulch. As the garden began to take shape, Yorktown Councilman Vishnu Patel stopped by and supplied additional flowering plants.
