YORKTOWN, N.Y. - It's going to take more than a little rain to wash out Yorktown's patriotism.

Hundreds of proud Yorktown residents persisted with the town's annual Memorial Day Parade on Monday morning despite accurate predictions of rainfall.

The remembrance of America's war dead began with a solemn ceremony at the Shrub Oak memorial, just outside of the John C. Hart Memorial Library. The annual ceremony is organized by the Mohegan Lake Volunteer Fire Association.

Next, a ceremony organized by American Legion Post 1009 took place at Yorktown Town Hall, as veterans laid wreaths and saluted the flag, followed by a playing of “taps.” After parading through downtown Yorktown Heights, a ceremony was held inside the American Legion Hall on Veterans Road.
