YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. — Yorktown’s girls lacrosse squad rolled past visiting No. 5 John Jay-Cross River 16-6 on Tuesday in the Section 1 Class B semifinals, led by four goals and five assists from Rilea Fusco.
"Our key to success on offense was definitely patience and working together just trying to find the open girl," Fusco said. "The defense played very well and made sure they were talking and working as a unit. They really did a great job and played with intensity during the whole game."
Michelle Seger (4G, 1A), Caroline Keenaghan (4A), Ciara Frawley (3G), Ellen O’Callaghan (2G, 1A), Kelsey McDonnell (2G), Katie Vogel (1G), McKenna Duff (1A) and Lexi DelBene (four saves) also contributed to the Huskers’ victory.
Top-seeded Yorktown (10-8) will now face Somers in the Class B title game at Yorktown at 5 p.m. on Thursday, making it the fifth-straight year the two teams will have played in the postseason.
Yorktown beat Somers in the title game last year, Somers defeated the Huskers in the 2015 and 2014 championship contests after Yorktown defeated the Tuskers in the 2013 semifinals.
