YORKTOWN, N.Y. - A $35,000 state grant has been awarded to Yorktown Central School District for a new trophy case and new bleachers.

The Board of Education unanimously accepted the gift at its Nov. 7 meeting. According to the resolution, $10,000 will be used to purchase and install a new trophy case at Yorktown High School. The other $25,000 will used to off-set the cost of a new section of bleachers at Murphy Field.

Michael Jefferson, director of communications for state Sen. Terrence Murphy’s office, confirmed the grant and said it was approved earlier this year. The school district applied for the grant specifically for the purchase of the trophy case and bleachers, Jefferson said.

The district was also awarded a $35,000 grant last year for the purchase of swimming equipment, he said.
