The Yorktown Youth Soccer Club held its 42nd annual Labor Day Weekend Soccer Tournament on Saturday and Sunday of that weekend. The tournament was attended by 158 competitive travel teams from across the metropolitan area and was held on the campus of Yorktown High School and other locations around town. The hometown Boys 2009 Gladiators and the Girls 2007 Tsunami were crowned champions of their divisions, followed by second-place winners: Boys 2005 and 2006 Premier Huskers, Boys 2008 Clash, Girls 2008 Flash and Girls 2008 Breakers. Club President Rick Romanski noted that Yorktown’s teams placed very well this year with the best club finishes in recent memory.

The Yorktown club and tournament committee thanks Trish Harris and Rob Barrett from the Yorktown School District as well as the Yorktown Town Board, the Lakeland School District, the Yorktown Police Department and Yorktown Volunteer Ambulance Corps for their support. In addition, the club recognizes that this event is so successful every year only because of the hard work of its club members and their families, especially Bernadette Acevedo, who co-chaired the event with Rick Romanski, president of the club; Al French (fields); John Hayes (referees); the Palmer family; the Sammom family; the Florkowski family; and the Acevedo and the Romanski family. Lastly, the club thanks NYCFC soccer club and Cusak Floors for their sponsorship and support.
