YORKTOWN, N.Y. – The owners and staff of Spark Valley Steakhouse welcomed town and state officials May 30 to celebrate the grand opening of Yorktown’s newest restaurant.

The steakhouse is located at 3360 Crompond Road (Route 202), opposite the Staples Plaza Shopping Center.

State Sen. Terrence Murphy and Assemblyman Kevin Byrne presented the owners with proclamations and each said a few words to commemorate the addition of a small business to the area.

“We thank you so much for taking the opportunity and the risk of opening up this great steakhouse in Yorktown,” Murphy said.

Klevis Tana, who co-owns the restaurant with brother-in-law, Elvis Cutra, and father-in-law, Sergio, said that with the exception of the steak, which is shipped from the Midwest, all of the food is locally sourced. The three have owned nine establishments, three of which are currently active.

Spark Valley Steakhouse was created with Yorktown’s history and the food selection in mind. The décor and art were chosen to reflect the area and the restaurant’s name, Tana said.

“Everything springs from the valley,” he said. “The cows, the fruits and the vegetables.”

Tana said both dry and wet-aged steaks are a specialty of the steakhouse, but for those that do not eat meat, they’ve hired a chef specifically to accommodate pasta requests. Additionally, the bar offers a selection of 3,000 wines (2,000 of which are red).

Spark Valley Steakhouse is also home to an art collection, which includes renaissance style pieces such as an original French tapestry and one panel of “The Duke and the Duchess of Urbino,” painted by artist and “The Sopranos star” Federico Castelluccio.

The restaurant’s menu and business hours are available on Facebook and its website, sparkvalleysteakhouse.com.

You’ll Get a Kick out of Musical Classic ‘Anything Goes’

I’ve loved Broadway musicals since I was smaller than a piano bench. That’s one reason I enjoy writing about local productions in this space. The more people who go to musicals, the happier it makes me.

I didn’t realize how old-fashioned about musicals I could be, though, until my wife Elyse and I at long last saw “Wicked.” It only took us 15 years to get there.

Real life is not the movies.

Things are not wrapped up in a neat bow, motivations are not explained, and things often don’t make sense.

Two weeks ago, a man driving “triple digits” in a Dodge Charger exited the Taconic State Parkway at Underhill Avenue, blew through a stop sign, and t-boned an SUV, injuring a mother and her 19-year-old daughter. Here is ...

The Adventures of Superdog

I was always very impressed that my dog could bark on command and come when I called his name, until I read in the newspaper about a dog that saved his owner’s life by calling 9-1-1. Apparently, when his owner had a seizure, the dog pushed a speed-dial button for 9-1-1, barked into the receiver for help, and then opened the door when the responders arrived.

Honestly, though, it’s ...

If You See Something, Say Something
