Inappropriate and inflammatory Holocaust analogies have become a “weapon of choice” in discussions of controversial issues. Everyone should be aware that these overused, manipulative and offensive Holocaust analogies only serve to “trivialize the Holocaust.” They are insensitive and disrespectful to the memory of the 12 million innocent people who perished at the hands of the Nazis and their collaborators, not to mention those Americans who fought bravely against the Nazis in World War ll.
A dangerous precedent was set in February 2015, when slanderous Nazi analogies were voiced by then Supervisor Michael Grace against a town councilperson during Town Board meetings. These disgusting Nazi comparisons were then repeated by a columnist and printed in the local papers. Let us not forget.
At the Feb 5 board meeting, our former supervisor once again made inappropriate Holocaust comparisons regarding the Reproductive Health Act. These inaccurate and provocative Nazi analogies were printed, once again, in the local newspapers. Michael Grace is a repeat offender who has proven his shameful willingness to drag the Nazi genocide of the Jewish people into divisive issues in order to advance his political arguments!
The Holocaust had nothing to do with the passage of the Reproductive Health Act or the feud between board members in 2015! These analogies are shameful.
The Town Board, the public and the press need to take a stand against the use of false and inappropriate Holocaust analogies. Nobel laureate and Auschwitz survivor Elie Wiesel, said, “I don’t compare anything to the Holocaust.” We should all heed his words.
Stop the use of inappropriate Holocaust comparisons.
Stop disrespecting the Holocaust!
