Vote Yes for the Constitutional Convention

I know I am right when I see who disagrees with me. The only reasons I have seen or read or heard against a New York Constitutional Convention are based on fear. Who is it that is afraid?  Public sector unions and elected officials—the two biggest groups that have something to fear from the people.

Public sector unions have had one hell of a gravy train at our expense for decades.

Gilbert Pledges to End Partisan Politics

In my effort to highlight the thoughts and comments of every candidate for town board and supervisor, I present for your consideration my recent talk with former Yorktown town justice Ilan Gilbert.

Bipartisan co-operation has taken a beating in the last several years. Is there anything in your background that would lead us to believe that you can bridge the immense partisan divide?

I began ...

Sleep Much?

Are you one of those folks who tells people that you can get by with sleeping, say, a mere four hours a night? I’ve always envied people like that.

I’m the south to their north—a polar opposite. I need double that amount of sleep. I’ve always assumed—or maybe once was told—that it is due to my slow metabolism. Or maybe I’m just boringly normal ...

Don’t Call Me... I’ll Call You

“Hello, hello,” I said, picking up the phone when I saw my husband’s number come up on my Caller ID.

Nothing.

“Hellllloooooooooo?” I said louder.

“Can I have a tall, decaf, skim mocha Frappucino,” I heard my husband say. It sounded like he wasn’t talking directly into his phone, but rather from a galaxy far, far ...

Combating Stress Levels at Home

Dear Dr. Linda,

We have a daughter in 11th grade and a son in 8th. We met with their teachers at an open house and were told that they’re both great kids and are doing well. Of course, we didn’t get any more detail because it was Parent Open School Night. When we drove home, I told my husband that I don’t think they’re doing great. Intellectually, yes, but not ...

Sign the Pledge

October 11, 2017

Last week, the Ethics and Transparency Committee of Yorktown Together issued a call for all six candidates for election to the town board in Yorktown to take an ethics pledge. This pledge has 10 points that are a bedrock of good government in Yorktown.

Unfortunately, this pledge has become necessary because of issues in current town government, including what we believe are ethical lapses, a ...

Helping English Language Learning Students Who Are Learning Disabled

Dana Stahl, a learning specialist and educational consultant, will address educational questions and concerns that parents may have regarding their children’s academic development and progress in school. Topics can center on such concerns as how to handle homework dilemmas or what questions to ask at a CSE meeting. Questions can range from “How best do parents advocate for their ...

Yorktown Actors Have Prominent Roles in ‘Diminished Capacity’

October 18, 2017

In a notable departure from its standard practice of staging Broadway classics, YCP TheaterWorks is bringing to the Hudson Valley the world premiere of a compelling drama about the inner workings of the New York City court system.

Albi Gorn, author of “Diminished Capacity,” is an award-winning playwright and Westchester resident (Hastings-on-Hudson), whose career as a court ...
