Elba G. Delgado of Mohegan Lake passed away peacefully at home with her daughter Jenny and granddaughter Jasmine on Jan. 12. Elba was 87 years old. She was born in Puerto Rico in 1934 and came to New York in 1951 at the age of 17.
She loved being around her family and was lovingly known as “Mama.” She leaves behind her three children and their spouses: Lillian and her husband James, Eddie and his wife Arlene, and Jenny, as well as her four grandchildren and their spouses: Jeanette, Erick and his wife Elyssa, Alexis and her husband Elijah, and Jasmine. Elba was blessed to have six great-grandchildren: Mia (15), Christian (14), Nicholas (12), Michael (11), Aubrey (7), Lillian (Lilly), and Ray (4 months), who she absolutely adored. She was predeceased by her brother Angel and survived by her brothers Jose and Hector and her sister Maribel, as well as many other family members and friends who loved her very much.
She will be most remembered for her strong faith in Christ, thankfulness in all circumstances, warm smile and great hugs, her kind heart, her quick-wittedness, and her endless enthusiasm and playful spirit, from playing scrabble with the ladies of her Bible study group to playing cards and Nintendo with family and friends!
Her family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations please be made to the American Cancer Society in her name.
At 9:30 a.m. March 13, there will be a memorial service held at Elba’s church (Taconic Christian Church, 1243 Whitehill Road, Yorktown Heights) to honor her memory and celebrate her life.
