YORKTOWN, N.Y. - Yorktown Relay for Life collects thousands of dollars annually from passing motorists on Commerce Street who spare whatever they can to volunteers holding purple boots or buckets.
The “Paint the Town Purple” tradition, held this year on Friday, May 3, kicks the fundraising season into gear. Since 2006, Yorktown Relay for Life has raised more than $2.5 million for the American Cancer Society.
The day prior, several town officials and volunteers literally painted the road purple.
The Relay for Life event will be held Friday, June 14, at Jack DeVito Veterans Memorial Field, where survivors, their families and the general public will unite under the common goal of one day finding a cure for cancer.
