I am proud to be a Yorktown resident for 15 years with my husband, Subhra. Our two children attend the Yorktown schools. It’s been a pleasure and an honor for me to serve for three years as a Trustee on the Yorktown Central School District Board of Education. While on the BOE, I’ve served on the Fiscal Advisory Committee, and I currently serve as the chair of the Audit Committee.

Professionally, I’ve worked in the financial services industry for 22 years. I have an MBA in finance from NYU and a bachelor’s degree in finance from Michigan State.

My passion is K-12 education and providing educational opportunities to our students that will enable them to be the leaders of the next generation while cultivating empathy and kindness. Prior to being on the BOE, I have an extensive history of volunteering in YCSD in leadership positions in the PTA, PTSA Council, and Foundation for Excellence to provide grants and scholarships to students to reach their full potential. I’ve also served as a parent member on the National School District of Character Committee and as a board member on the State School of Character Committee.

Why do you want to be a member of the Yorktown School District Board of Education?

During my three years on the Board of Education, I’ve enjoyed collaborating with other trustees on the BOE, our superintendent, assistant superintendents, administration, faculty, parents and the community. Together, we have achieved significant milestones and many of our goals. As a district, we have many strengths: a strong fiscal position, 21st-century technology in the classrooms, athletic programs, top-notch facilities, performing arts programs, science and technology programs in grades K-12, talented and dedicated staff and of course, our students who never cease to amaze us with their strengths and achievements.

I hope to continue to build on the strengths of our district by bringing my finance background, fundraising background, organizational management, strategic thinking, and business acumen to the school board. I believe that my experiences and perspective will continue to add value to our district as we race into the future with our students well-prepared to pursue their dreams.

What is a top priority for the Yorktown School District going forward?

The Yorktown Central School District will continue to be a pioneer in its work with ESTEAM. The concept of ESTEAM is the magical coalescence of empathy, kindness, creativity, innovation, imagination, science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics. We recognize that our students today are the leaders of tomorrow and beyond. It is our vision to empower our learners with the necessary skills to be successful when they enter the global workforce and for them to have the capacity to influence change in the world. While this is a lofty goal for any school district, it is a goal we believe in and it will remain a top priority for us.

We will continue to infuse ESTEAM into our instructional program, while we continue to embrace the importance of reading, writing, vocabulary, social studies, public speaking, music, physical education, world languages, and all other important content areas and subjects that our students learn about every day in the classrooms.

As we continue to build upon and expand our ESTEAM program, I am very excited for the opportunities that are ahead of us.

As a member of the Board of Education, I am able to share a vision for academic achievement including an expectation of high academic standards as part of a curriculum that educates the whole child. Rich academic curriculum, a plethora of sports opportunities, a strong performing arts department, various community service opportunities, a variety of different co-curriculars and clubs, and many civic opportunities within the school and community are some of the ways in which our students are able to become well-rounded students who will have a positive influence in this world. As a proud parent of a graduate of Yorktown High School and of two children currently attending schools in the district, I see the caliber of education and experiences my children receive while being a part of the school community.

What is a top priority for the Yorktown School District going forward?

A top priority for Yorktown Central School District is staying at the forefront of our students’ education, in a 21st-century learning environment, while maintaining a fiscally responsible budget.

Incorporated into our curriculum and vision is STEAM-based education—science, technology, engineering, arts and math. Recently, ESTEAM has become part of our academic world, with the first E representing empathy, being the foundation of all teaching and learning. The district continues to expand learning opportunities, as well as provide additional resources so that students can work and learn in an environment which fosters the ESTEAM philosophy. ESTEAM has allowed us to move the district forward with an emphasis on social-emotional learning opportunities for all students. Students are not only learning, but they know that what they learn can be put into action and make a difference in the world.

In addition to the district’s strong academic standards, a top priority will always be school safety and security. Our safety and security procedures are continuously reviewed and upgrades are made accordingly. Programs, resources, and safety measures are instituted in order to ensure that our staff and students can teach and learn in a safe and secure environment.

Whether it is upgrading facilities, expanding learning opportunities, adding resources or reinforcing school safety initiatives, the district strives to provide an optimum learning environment for all students. Our board responsibilities, in tandem with our district’s mission statement and our superintendent’s action plan, will ensure that every student will receive the best and most well-rounded education.
