The following is from Dr. Ronald Hattar, Superintendent of the Yorktown Central School District:

Moments ago I learned that the parent of one of our high school students tested positive for COVID-19 today.  The individual has not been in any of our schools this year, and our buildings were completely disinfected today as part of our daily disinfection schedule.  Nonetheless, our Medical Director and the Westchester County Department of Health have suggested closing schools through this weekend. I have accepted their suggestion.  The closure extends to all activities scheduled on our campuses through this weekend, including the SATs.

The closure will continue through this weekend.  Schools were closed for students tomorrow anyway as a result of a previously scheduled professional development day for staff only.  I have asked staff not to report to our campuses tomorrow simply as a precautionary measure. Rather, we will engage in a virtual professional learning day for faculty and staff.

I will keep our school community apprised of any further developments as I learn them.  If this or any other situation requires further closure of our schools, I will most certainly keep you informed.
