YORKTOWN, N.Y. – Yorktown High School’s Senior Citizens Outreach Club has perhaps never been more important.

Pre-COVID 19, the teens regularly visited senior-care facilities in Yorktown, where they would spend time doing crafts, playing games, painting nails, and decorating for the holidays.

But the pandemic has prevented them from physically visiting Yorktown’s seniors since March.

“The inability to receive visits from family and friends has led many seniors to feel isolated and depressed,” Chelsea LaPlaca, a member of the high school club, wrote in an email.

So, the students sought ways to virtually connect with the seniors “to help lift their spirits and let them know they have not been forgotten,” LaPlaca wrote.

Recently, the Yorktown Senior Citizens Outreach Club created a music trivia video to share with senior living communities in town. Members of the club created trivia questions from different eras and genres of music and played music clips for the seniors to guess the artist.

The video features nine questions asked by club members LaPlaca, Laura Ciarcia, Marie Ducey, Alissa Statler, Nicolette Shkreli, Steven Rojas, Emma Rubenstein, Claire Ducey, and Grace Flandreau.

They concluded the video with a message for the seniors: “Stay healthy. Keep smiling. This will be over soon. We’ll get through this together.”
