YORKTOWN, N.Y. – Yorktown’s Dylan Smith is in his third year on the Huskers’ varsity football squad. He is a senior captain who plays running back on offense and safety on defense. Smith was named All-League a year ago.
Through three games this season, all Yorktown victories, Smith has rushed for 548 yards and 8 touchdowns on 34 carries.
How old were you when you started playing football and what got you started?
I was 8 years old. What got me started with playing football was watching it on television. I loved the contact that was involved with the sport and since then I fell in love with the game.
What is your favorite thing about being on the football team at Yorktown?
Playing with my family. We have an inseparable bond and we’ve always supported one another.
What is your favorite team activity or pregame or postgame ritual that you share with your teammates?
My favorite pregame ritual that I share with my teammates is going in that last huddle right before the game. Nothing is better than getting hyped up with your family.
Do you have any goals for your final season at Yorktown?
My only goal for my final season is playing every game with no regrets. To play every game like it’s our last time touching the field.
Who has been your biggest role model over the years and what have you learned from them?
My biggest role model besides my parents has been Nate Morse. Nate is from Arlington and since I’ve heard what happened to him, he’s taught me to play every down like it’s your last. Anything can happen in a blink of an eye. Thank you, Nate.
Tell us one thing about yourself that not a lot of people know?
I love playing chess. I enjoy the strategy behind the board game.
Do you plan to continue to play football in college? Tell us about where you are going to school and why you chose it?
I hope to continue my football career beyond high school. As of right now, I am going to Pace University.
I chose this school because I wanted to be as close as I can to my family.
I want to be around if they need any help. Also, Pace has the same atmosphere as Yorktown. It’s one big family.
Do you know what you want to study in college? If yes, what are you planning on studying and why?
In college, I’m going to major in business/finance. I chose business/finance because I feel that business is similar to a team where we all have our own individual jobs, but we work together to accomplish a goal.
What is your favorite music to listen to warming up for a game?
If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?
Teleportation because I would never have to drive. Also, I will never be late to anything.
If you could pick one place to visit on vacation that you’ve never been to, where would you go and why?
If I could pick one place to visit on vacation that I’ve never been to would be Italy. My mother’s side is all Italian and my grandparents have always talked about how great it is there.
What is your favorite food to eat before or after a game?
My favorite food to eat before and after a game is pancakes. They are a great source of energy based on their carbohydrates.
Best place to eat in Yorktown and why?
Hirame. It’s a great sushi place to relax and chill with friends or family. Also, their lettuce chicken wraps are amazing.

If I had to choose between Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, I would choose Instagram only because I do not have Facebook or Twitter.
