Health News You Can Use

The results of a study of almost 27,000 people from 32 countries around the globe found that if 10 risk factors were controlled, 90 percent of all strokes could be prevented. They are: high blood pressure (140/90 or higher),  blood fats (cholesterol), obesity, poor diet, smoking, high or heavy alcohol use, diabetes, stress, heart disease, and physical inactivity. Of them all, high blood pressure accounts for almost half (48%) of all strokes. The study was published online July 15, 2016 in the medical journal Lancet. A summary of this ...

In Search Of Flavor

MILLBURN, NJ – Opening a new restaurant is no simple task, particularly if it intends to cater to an educated fine dining audience.  Though the competition for diners’ dollars in “the biz” is tough everywhere, it’s particularly risky for the fine dining establishment as the relative investment in construction, equipment, staff and ingredients is much higher than opening, say, a similarly sized diner.  According to a Cornell University study, 60 percent of restaurants will fail in the first year.  ...

Faces on the Money                     By Rev. Andrew JJ Paton        Seen from the right angle, and with my hair quite long, I’m told there’s a vague resemblance to an American president of years gone by. One day my wife was showing our little grand-daughter the American currency. Tayla calls me Oupa, and when they came to the $5 bill she asked: “What’s Oupa doing on the money?” ...

The Hyperlocal Consultant

Facebook recently changed its algorithm to reduce organic reach of posts.  In other words, posts to Facebook are being seen by far fewer people.   While Facebook attempts to justify its decision to do so by claiming it is helping to unclutter the user experience, the reality is that businesses that spent money, and in some cases significant money, building up their Likes on Facebook are reeling.  Some are accusing Facebook of a bait and switch. Now if a business wants their post to reach the people that Like their ...

Tune Into Tola

As per usual, death was on the menu for the Season Six finale of “Game of Thrones.” Four of my six predictions (Lancel, Loras, Tommen and the High Sparrow) were gone in one fell swoop—not to mention Queen Margaery, Lord Mace, Kevan Lannister and Grand Maester Pycelle, how convenient. Pycelle needed to go sooner rather than later, but I’m heartbroken over the loss of Margaery. Walder Frey was finally put in his place by both a Lanninster and a Stark. And as Cersei takes the Iron Throne for herself, we once again have ...
